Tamara was born and raised in Dhahran. After completing an MBBS in Medicine and Surgery, Tamara joined Saudi Aramco Medical Organization (SAMSO) in 1994 and held various leadership positions including the establishment of the award-winning Primary Care patient ownership program. In 1996, Tamara started working with medical informatics serving as the physician representative of various IT projects and enhancements. In 2011, Tamara obtained professional certification in Healthcare Information and Healthcare Management (CPHIMS). In 2016 Tamara completed the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health’s Leadership Strategies for Information Technology in Healthcare program. Tamara also became a certified Project Manager Professional (PMP) that year. The fruition of extensive planning and work was realized in January 2018 when JHAH rolled out the Epic EHR across the enterprise with Tamara leading the Clinical Aspect as well as ensuring a smooth transition amongst Physicians. In 2019 Tamara worked on Establishing the Strategy and Risk Management office, laying the necessary groundwork, governance, policies, training, and framework to establish Strategy as well as an ISO 31000 Risk Management framework and Enterprise Project Management (EPMO). This enabled her organization to holistically plan, budget, execute, measure, and manage performance.
Tamara currently serves on the IT Steering, and Utilization committees. She also chairs the Data and Documentation Governance committee. Tamara served on various HIMSS task forces, as well as being active in the HIMSS Physician, Clinical & Business Intelligence, and Innovation communities. In 2015, Tamara was recognized as a Senior Member of HIMSS, and in 2020 further awarded for her contributions with the status of Fellow member of HIMSS (FHIMSS). She was selected as a clinical leader for the HIMSS Future50 Class of 2021. Dr. Sunbul Received the highly commended Arabian Business Saudi Women in Business Award in 2022 and in 2023, received the Arabian Business KSA Women In Business award (Healthcare category). In 2022, Dr. Sunbul joined the International KLAS Advisory Board (KAB). Dr. Sunbul represents Saudi Arabia at the Global Digital Health Platform and currently serves there as the Evidence and Evaluation workstream co-chair. Dr. Sunbul currently serves as the 2022 chair of the HIMSS Middle East Community Steering Committee. Dr. Sunbul is a recipient of the 2022 ZIMAM/HIMSS Digital Health Leader of the Year award. Dr. Sunbul is a sought-after keynote speaker with recent keynotes at HIMSS22, Leap22, Arab Heath22, and KLAS International Summit22
Dr. Sunbul brings a diverse background in healthcare, management of information, performance management, analytics, project management, business planning, and over 25 years of experience in healthcare leadership, a unique combination of knowledge, and expertise. Dr. Sunbul currently works as a Strategy and Risk Management Consultant at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare Consultant and currently serves as the Medical Director of Clinical Informatics. Tamara was recognized as a Fellow member of HIMSS (FHIMSS) and was selected as part of the HIMSS Future50 Class as a clinical leader to improve the global e-health program. Dr. Sunbul is a recipient of 2022 ZIMAM/HIMSS Digital Health Leader of the Year award and the 2023 Arabian Business KSA Women In Business award (Healthcare Category).
